ISLANDS 2026. Soil and Terra
For 2026 edition, Islands turns toward the ground itself.
Soil & Terra explores soil not only as material, but as memory, pigment, archive, and living ecosystem. Through installations, natural pigments, recycled materials, botanical processes, sound, and participatory artistic practices, the exhibition reflects on sustainability, ecological awareness, and the fragile connection between people and the earth beneath them.
Rooted in Madeira’s volcanic landscapes and developed through workshops, ecological interventions, and community collaborations throughout 2025–2026, the exhibition brings together artists, local communities, seniors, children, and international creators in a shared exploration of touch, slowness, transformation, and collective care.
Within Soil & Terra, the gallery space becomes a temporary ecosystem — a place where art, landscape, sustainability, and sensory experience intersect.
Rather than offering direct answers, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, observe more carefully, and reconnect with the physical world through artistic experience.
