Artistic Statement
At the heart of Sonia´s work lies her exuberance for life. At once playful yet conveying a deep emotional response, her impressionistic works yield a magic that is immediate. This zest, filtered through the lens of her Brazilian cultural background produces the themes and imagery she can respond to and portray with an easy freedom. Her rich colours produce a luxuriant foliage of patterns that sit relaxed alongside her elegant, elongated, Mannerist figures of dancers and musicians, all conjuring up the joys, sounds, smells, colours of her beloved Brasilia.
